I have always enjoyed making very detailed drawings and about twenty years ago completed a course in etching. Since then I have devoted my time primarily to that medium, enjoying the combination of strength of tone with the subtleties that can be achieved. My inspiration comes from my immediate surroundings; small glimpses of everyday scenes or places I have visited in England or abroad. Other ideas arise from animal and bird studies. My work includes multi-plate prints where several plates are combined to make a final print, I find the combination of various scenes interesting to put together. The aim in my work is to portray the characters of the animals I am drawing, or to capture the mood of a scene that has inspired me, striving to create the texture and feel of the subject I am drawing.
