Exuberant gestural painterly monotypes full of movement, weather, air and space. Filtered memory, in combination with imagined and unseen places have been embedded, and subsequently surface through exploration of layered colour and mark making.

These are used to explore the ‘Emotional Landscape’. The paintings aim to offer a sense of perspective, invite reflection and utilise the restorative and hopeful aspects of nature. Capitalising on the chance mark, and working in layers of transparency to create depth, texture and form.

The majority of the images are created through the medium of silkscreen monotype where the painting is built up through layers of ink and created directly on the screen without stencils or complicated technology.  In this way these unique works they are more akin to paintings which require a decisive bold approach, punctuated with periods of reflection, editing and overprinting over time before the image is complete. Often entire areas are washed away and repainted through the screen, overlaying transparent colour and employing various tools to create marks which suggest form rather than dictate it.

Silkscreen Monotype is favoured as there is a fascination with the chance mark, and the painterly process and gestural scale allows a great deal of freedom from the usual restraints of printmaking.  The objective is to create images that invite reflection and employ rich sensitive colour.
