A furious God despatches his prophet to drop a thunderbolt on the Caliphate and expel its supporters and protectors. Aleppo still burns but the ‘Hourieh,’ here depicted as bird-women, have been sent to rescue the fleeing people and guide them to safety. Meanwhile the Heavenly Host have taken up their instruments and are preparing to usher in the returning musicians and dancers to reclaim their ancestral lands. Baroque in style and intention, it is operatic and wildly optimistic but hope springs eternal and musicians and dancers do reclaim and sustain their art wherever they go. It is a kind of redemption wherever it happens.
