Colour lithograph by Henri Matisse created to publicise a fund-raising banquet at the Louvre in 1959. The text reads, "Madame de Pompadour receives on Tuesday 20 November 1951 at the Pavillon de Marsan at 22 hours". The mistress of King Louis VX smiles in Matisse' characteristic style of simplified forms and pure colour. "Madame de Pompadour" was originally a collage of "cut-out" painted papers, that was also printed as a lithograph at Atelier Mourlot.
