This is a monotype, made by directly transferring paint from cut boards onto paper. Sutton along with his wife the artist Carol Robertson frequently spends time in a studio in the South of France. Here we have Sutton at his most literal and least abstract. This work, along with Landscape 1 is inspired by the the rolling hills, valleys and vineyards of the immediate landscape in Alayrac, Midi Pyrenées, visible from the studio window.
