Maurice Cockrill began studying painting in the late 1950s and has studied at the Denbigh Technical college of Art as well as the University of Reading. After this he spent many years teaching and painting in Liverpool. Later, his style of painting can be seen as romantic expressionism which is exemplified in 'Jade Sky and Dark Column'. This particular painting is open to many interpretations which may evoke a number of emotions due to its intricately abstract style and use of colour.
