This painting documents an instinctual, energetic and powerful love of colour, form and expressive mark making. Ross says that “creating abstract marks from her body as a human brush is exciting’ as the paint is smeared onto the canvas and into the forms of the vibrant red Macaws. The thickness or thin fluidity of the paint is sexual in itself where gestures and images resonate to trigger emotions and memories of experience; a tropical rainforest, the sounds of a Jungle, the night singing frogs, the blue sky and this important drama encountered within the spaces and darker shadows of the undergrowth. These Macaws emanate from a raw and primitive energy of spontaneity. This painting began with masking tape stretched vertically and horizontally across the primed canvas in order to create the golden means in sections. It was a way to disrupt the painting’s surface. Ross’s painting are about a language for thinking in substances and processes. They are equally an encounter and reflection of a world that is imminently disappearing.
The parrot spirit animal carries a message of celebration, a happy expression of all the good things that are happening in your life, and the good things that have yet to be experienced. It symbolises the everyday beauty of which we are surrounded.
