In 2007, Craig-Martin held an exhibition 'A is for Umbrella' in which he produced a series of paintings based on the alphabet. A series of prints was produced in relation to this exhibtion and both reflect the artist's ongoing interest in language and symbols. Craig-Martin is playing with the iconography of every day life and yet subverts expectation by mismatching images and letters. Craig-Martin was key in influencing the YBA generation through his teaching at Goldsmiths College of Art.
