This playful lithographic poster was produced for an exhibition of Léger's recent work in 1954. Acrobats were a favourite subject for Léger and his peers Picasso and Chagall. Léger was fascinated by the circus as a child, and liked to watch the troupes pass through his hometown in rural France. In post-war Paris, the circus became a place where culture was easily accessible.
